At what age can my son have a circumcision?
Circumcision can be carried out at any age. On this pathway we care for teenagers aged 13 to 17, and we have separate pathways for younger children and adults. A consultation helps us recommend the right timing and approach based on your son's individual situation, health, and maturity.
Is circumcision safe for teenagers?
Yes. Performed by a specialist using the Pollock Technique™, it's a refined, well-established procedure with a very low complication rate. Every procedure here is led by a doctor with specialist training.
How painful is circumcision for a teenager?
It's carried out under effective local anaesthetic, so your son shouldn't feel pain during the procedure - typically just some mild discomfort during recovery, which is easily managed with the aftercare we provide.
Does my son need a general anaesthetic?
In most cases, no. The Pollock Technique™ uses local anaesthetic, which avoids the risks and recovery time of a general. We'll explain exactly what's planned for your son at consultation.
How long is recovery, and how much time off school or sport?
Most teenagers are back to school within a few days, with sport, swimming and PE usually paused for around two weeks while healing completes. You'll get clear, practical aftercare guidance tailored to his age and activity.
