The Pollock Technique™ is one of the most important ways in which Gentle Procedures is different. Dr Neil Pollock has focused on circumcision for decades, studying established techniques and using that experience to continually refine his approach. What to Expect During Your Appointment
Every child is different. Some will want to know exactly what is going to happen, while younger children may simply need reassurance, distraction and the comfort of having you close by. Your appointment is structured into four clear stages, so your son knows what will happen and why. Most appointments take around 45 to 60 minutes, giving you and your son the time you need without feeling rushed. We are deliberately unhurried, so he can ask questions, understand what is happening and feel comfortable throughout.

Arrive and Settle
You will be shown to your private room where you and your son can settle in. You will have time to chat with your son, ask any final questions, and help him settle down before anything begins. We will keep the environment calm and friendly to put you both at ease. For younger children, this might mean a favourite toy, cuddles or distraction. Older children may want to talk, ask questions or simply have a little time to get comfortable.

Meet Your Doctor
Your doctor will begin by examining your son, talk you both through the Pollock Technique™, and answer his questions in a way he can understand. We will guide him through what will happen and make sure we address any concerns.

The Procedure Itself
We use local anaesthetic alongside age-appropriate reassurance and distraction to help keep your son comfortable throughout.

Afterwards, your son will have time to rest in your private room. You will get clear guidance on aftercare and follow-up before leaving, including how to contact us for support.

Our private rooms give you a distraction-free, calm space, allowing him to retain his dignity during what can be a significant time for him and your family. We also offer a comfortable lounge for parents and family members to relax, with facilities to make the visit as comfortable as possible.
Our free, convenient parking makes travelling with a child easier, and our Birmingham Business Park location is easy to access, with plenty of nearby facilities. Your appointment will be unhurried, with plenty of time to ask questions and allow your son to go through the procedure without feeling pressured. We do not want you to watch the clock. Your appointment will take as long as it needs to.

Will my son be traumatised by circumcision at this age?
Not necessarily. He can be actively involved in the process and feel included. He can ask questions, and we take them seriously and explain things in language he can understand. Most boys describe the experience as less daunting than they expected.

Is my son too old for circumcision at 18 months to 12 years?
Not at all. We provide circumcision for boys aged 18 months to 12 years. At this stage, he can understand the procedure, be involved in the decision, and ask the questions he wants answered.
How long will my son take to heal?
Healing varies between children. Your son can return to nursery or school when he feels comfortable and our clinical team advises it is appropriate. PE, swimming, cycling and other sports should wait until our clinical team confirms he is ready.
Do we need a GP referral?
No referral and no waiting list. You can book a consultation directly with us.
