- Vasectomy - The Gentle Way
Why "No Needle" Matters as Much as "No Scalpel"
Most men would prefer to avoid a scalpel. Fewer realise that in a standard vasectomy - including many no-scalpel ones - the anaesthetic is still injected into the scrotum by needle, often the part patients dread most.
The Pollock Technique™ removes it entirely. The anaesthetic is applied through the skin with a fine, high-pressure spray that numbs the area in seconds - no syringe, no injection site, no needle mark. Combined with the no-scalpel opening, the whole procedure is carried out without anything sharp touching the skin, and it's usually finished in around ten minutes.
- Our Approach to Care
Why Birmingham Men Are Choosing the No-Scalpel & No-Needle Vasectomy
The no-scalpel, no-needle vasectomy was developed to address the two parts of the procedure men most dislike: the cut and the injection. Instead of a surgical incision, our doctors make a single tiny opening and gently widen it - small enough that no stitches are needed and the skin closes naturally. And instead of a needle, the anaesthetic is delivered through the skin by a fine, high-pressure spray that numbs the area in seconds.
A quick, gentle procedure
Using the Pollock Technique™ - a recognised gold standard - the procedure itself takes around ten minutes, with a layered comfort protocol designed to keep you at ease throughout.
Unhurried, generous appointments
Our appointments are intentionally generous with time - so you can settle, ask questions, and feel completely ready before anything happens. We never rush.
24/7 doctor access, always included
Healing happens at home, sometimes in the middle of the night. Every patient has direct 24/7 access to our clinical team, plus follow-up visits at no extra cost.

Got an appointment very quickly. Given resources and direct access to the physician which put us at ease. The doctor and staff have lot of experience and was able to anticipate the behaviour of my infant pre and post procedure which also helps knowing what to expect. Definitely would recommend!

My son had his circumcision and I had the vasectomy. The staff and doctor were very nice and pleasant to work with. They do their best to relax you and answer all your questions. Both procedures were a lot better than I expected. They give you all the info you need to prepare for the procedures. They also give you a direct phone number for any support questions after. I would recommend this place.

The procedure was fast and painless. Everyone at the clinic is professional and welcoming. After the procedure and during my healing time any questions and concerns that I had was answered by the doctor promptly. The doctor went above and beyond to accommodate me in some small issues that I was having. Over all great experience and would recommend this clinic.

I cannot recommend the Gentle Procedures Clinic highly enough! From start to finish, my experience was outstanding. The doctor was absolutely amazing-professional, reassuring, and incredibly skilled. The procedure itself was unbelievably quick and completely pain- free. I hardly noticed that I had undergone a procedure at all! Even afterward, I felt zero pain or discomfort, which was a pleasant surprise.

The doctor performed the circumcision with exceptional care and professionalism. The procedure was quick, clean, and well-explained from start to finish. He made sure we were comfortable and answered all our questions patiently. The recovery process went smoothly, thanks to his clear instructions and follow-up care.

- YOUR MOST-ASKED QUESTIONS
No-Scalpel, No-Needle Vasectomy: Your Questions Answered
What is the Pollock Technique™ for vasectomy?
The Pollock Technique™ is a standardised vasectomy method that removes both the scalpel and the anaesthetic needle. Instead of cutting the skin and injecting local anaesthetic with a needle, a single tiny opening is made at the base of the scrotum, and the anaesthetic is delivered through a fine pressure spray. Combined with the double open-ended approach and fascial interposition, it is the only protocol that brings all of these refinements together into a single, repeatable procedure performed the same way every time.
What is a no-needle vasectomy?
A no-needle vasectomy uses a specialised pressure spray applicator to deliver the local anaesthetic through the skin in a fine, high-pressure stream. The skin is numbed within seconds, without an injection, syringe or needle mark. It is just as effective at numbing the area as a needle injection, and it removes the part of the appointment most men say they dread.
Is "no scalpel" the same as "no needle"?
No – they’re often confused. “No scalpel” refers to how the skin is opened (a single tiny opening rather than an incision). “No needle” refers to how the anaesthetic is delivered (a pressure spray instead of an injection). Many no-scalpel vasectomies still use a needle to administer the anaesthetic. The Pollock Technique™ is the only standardised method that combines both – no scalpel and no needle – so nothing sharp is used at any stage of the procedure.
What is a double open-ended vasectomy, and why do you use it?
A double open-ended vasectomy is a refinement to the procedure that eliminates the need for cautery (burning) to seal the vas. The lower end of the tube (the testicular side) is left open, while the upper end is cut and then separated from it by a layer of natural connective tissue (fascial interposition). Leaving the lower end open allows sperm to be reabsorbed naturally, which helps decompress the epididymis and reduces the build-up of pressure that can cause swelling and discomfort during early recovery. Modern studies show this approach does not increase the chance of failure, and it can lead to less post-vasectomy pain and improved outcomes if a man later considers a reversal.
What is fascial interposition?
Fascial interposition is a crucial step in the procedure where a thin sheath of natural tissue from your body is secured between the two cut ends of the vas, creating a physical barrier between them. We use a dissolving suture, which means no foreign bodies – such as metal clips – are left inside your scrotum. This step is one of the reasons the technique has such a high success rate.
Does the Pollock Technique™ hurt?
Most men describe the procedure as far more comfortable than they expected. The needle-free anaesthetic is felt as a brief tap on the skin – nothing sharp – and once the area is numb, you shouldn’t feel pain during the procedure. Some men feel a tugging or pressure sensation, but the experience is generally calm and quick. Mild discomfort or aching for a day or two afterwards is normal, and is usually well managed with simple over-the-counter pain relief.
