Why Families Choose Circumcision at This Age
Circumcision is a deeply personal subject. It may be a matter of faith, cultural identity, heritage, or a family tradition handed down through the generations. You may have physical concerns such as tight foreskin causing discomfort, or concerns about hygiene. Whatever your reason, it is valid, and we will treat it with respect.
For some teenagers, being circumcised now might make sense because of the timing. You may be old enough to understand what is happening, ask the questions you need answered, and have a say in the decision.
You may also want to consider your recovery, including school, exams, sports and your other commitments.
Your price includes your consultation, procedure and structured aftercare
Health Benefits for Teenagers
Greater comfort as your body develops.
Foreskin tightness or repeated irritation can become troublesome during the teenage years. Where these problems occur, circumcision may provide lasting relief.
- More comfortable erections by relieving foreskin tightness.
- Fewer recurring foreskin infections and less ongoing soreness.
- Easier personal hygiene, without discomfort when pulling back the foreskin.
- Relief from painful urination where a tight foreskin is the cause.
Our doctors offer a private, respectful consultation to discuss the benefits, risks and alternatives, with your teenager’s questions and wishes central to the conversation.

The Pollock Technique™: Precision and Faster Healing
The Pollock Technique™ is one of the most important ways in which Gentle Procedures is different. Dr Neil Pollock has focused on circumcision for decades, studying established techniques and using that experience to continually refine his approach. The procedure focuses on comfort, precision, minimising tissue trauma, and cosmetic results. It has subsequently been used extensively internationally, and our doctors have undertaken specific training in the Pollock Technique™ to bring this approach to teenagers in the UK.
- Minimally Invasive
- Comfort-Focused
- Suture-Free
- Attention to Cosmetic Results
What to Expect During Your Appointment
Your appointment is structured into four clear stages, so you know exactly what will happen and why. Most appointments take around 45 to 60 minutes, giving you the time you need without feeling rushed. We are deliberately unhurried, so you can ask questions, understand what is happening and feel comfortable throughout.
01
Arrive and Settle
You will be shown to your private room. Our team will explain any consent and accompanying-adult requirements before your appointment. You will have time to chat, ask any questions and get settled before anything happens. Appointments are deliberately unhurried, so you have time to get comfortable before anything begins.
02
Meet Your Doctor
Your doctor will begin by examining you. Next, he will talk you through the Pollock Technique™, explain how we will manage your comfort, and answer any remaining questions. We will make sure you feel heard and understand what is happening.
03
The Procedure Itself
We will give you local anaesthetic to keep you comfortable so you should not feel pain, just some mild discomfort. We will explain what we are doing in language you can actually understand. The procedure does not take long.
04
Rest and Recover
Afterwards, you will have time to rest in your private room. You will get clear guidance on aftercare and follow-up before leaving. This will include which activities to pause while you heal, what to watch out for, and how to contact us for support.
Your Comfort and Care
It is completely normal to have questions or feel a little nervous about having a circumcision. We will explain what is happening at each stage, give you time to ask questions and make sure you feel supported throughout your appointment. We use a range of evidence-based comfort measures so you are relaxed and informed throughout. Your well-being matters.
During the Procedure
- Effective local anaesthetic applied to numb the area completely

Healing and Aftercare: Day by Day
Knowing what to expect after your circumcision can help you feel more confident about your recovery at home. Before you leave the clinic, we will explain how to care for the circumcision site, what normal healing looks like and when you should contact us.
First 24 hours
It is normal to feel some discomfort or sensitivity following the procedure. The dressing should remain in place as instructed by your clinical team, and we will explain how to check the area before you leave the clinic. Small spots of blood can be normal, but continuous or persistent bleeding is not.
Take it easy for the rest of the day and follow the pain relief, dressing and wound-care instructions provided by your clinical team. Make sure you are passing urine normally and wear comfortable clothing that does not put unnecessary pressure on the area.
Days 1 to 3: Initial Healing
Some mild swelling, redness or a shiny appearance around the circumcision site is normal during the early stages of healing. You may also notice a thin layer of yellow or white tissue as part of the natural healing process. This does not, by itself, indicate an infection.
Keep the area clean and dry and follow the dressing instructions provided by your clinical team. You may still feel some tenderness or sensitivity, particularly when moving around.
You should rest and avoid PE, sport, cycling and strenuous physical activity during this early stage of recovery.
As part of your structured follow-up, your clinical team will check how you are feeling and how your healing is progressing.
Days 4 to 7: Continued Healing
After 72 hours, gentle washing can usually begin. Pat the area dry rather than rubbing it. Swelling, redness and sensitivity should gradually begin to reduce, although everyone heals at a slightly different rate.
The yellow or white coating will gradually disappear as the skin heals underneath. Continue to keep the area clean and dry and follow the aftercare instructions provided by your clinical team.
You may notice erections, particularly during the night or when waking. These can feel uncomfortable while the area is healing but are a normal part of recovery.
Continue to avoid PE, sport, swimming, cycling and other strenuous activities until your clinical team advises that it is safe to restart them.
Your healing will be reviewed as part of your scheduled follow-up to make sure your recovery is progressing as expected.
Day 7 to 14: Final Healing
By the second week, swelling and tenderness should continue to settle, although the circumcision site may still look slightly red or pink. This is normal, and the colour will gradually fade as healing continues.
You should be able to return to more of your usual daily routine as you feel comfortable, although you should continue to follow the advice provided about PE, sport and other physical activities.
Healing continues beyond the first two weeks, and the area may take several weeks to fully settle. Your clinical team will let you know when you can return to all of your normal activities.

I honestly cannot recommend this clinic enough. My child recently had his circumcision here, and from the moment we walked through the doors, I felt completely reassured that I had made the right decision. Before choosing this clinic, I visited several others, but none of them gave me the same feeling of comfort and confidence. The team here were incredibly professional, welcoming and accommodating. They took the time to answer every question I had, no matter how small, and explained everything to me in such detail. As a parent, this meant so much to me because I never felt rushed or made to feel like I was asking too many questions. What really stood out was how confident and knowledgeable the staff were. You could tell they genuinely knew what they were doing, but at the same time, they were kind, patient and understanding. They made the whole experience feel much less daunting than I had imagined. The clinic itself was also completely different from anywhere else I had visited. It was calm, clean and welcoming, which created such a reassuring environment for both my child and me. Everything they did felt centred around the patient, and I could genuinely see that my child's comfort and wellbeing were their priority. I am especially grateful for the support they offered beyond the procedure itself. They made it clear that they were there to support us afterwards too, not simply until we left the clinic or until a follow-up appointment. Knowing that I could reach out if I had any concerns gave me so much peace of mind. As a parent, you naturally want the very best for your child, and choosing someone to carry out a procedure like this can feel like a huge decision. I am so glad I chose Gentle Procedures. I genuinely felt listened to, respected and cared for throughout the whole experience. I would recommend this clinic to every parent and honestly to every person I meet who is considering circumcision. I have never felt this level of confidence and reassurance with any other healthcare provider. A huge thank you to everyone at Gentle Procedures. You are truly amazing, and I am so grateful for the care you gave my child and the reassurance you gave me as a parent. ❤️Posted on Google![]()

We have had an excellent, professional and calming experience at TGP clinic today. Being nervous parents we felt ever so calm during the process. The discussion during and post procedure was extremely clear. We were provided with postcare items and were talked through it all. It was that good we ended up chatting away in the reception forgetting our appointment was completed.Thank you ever so much for a safe procedure. Will 100% recommend.Posted on Google![]()

Frequently Asked Questions
Is circumcision safe for teenagers?
At Gentle Procedures, our specialists use the Pollock Technique™, a refined, well-established procedure with a very low complication rate. Every procedure here is led by a doctor with specialist training.
How long is recovery, and how long off school or sport?
You can return to school when you feel comfortable and our clinical team advises it is appropriate. PE, swimming, cycling and other sports should wait until our clinical team confirms you are ready. Healing continues beyond the first two weeks.
Will my consultation be private?
Yes absolutely. Our consultations are private and confidential. We will talk to you directly and respectfully. Many teenagers often feel reassured knowing their privacy is protected throughout.
Can I have this done before sixth form or university?
You can plan your appointment around school, exams and other commitments, allowing time for recovery.
What about swimming, showers and changing rooms during recovery?
Avoid swimming pools for the first 2 weeks while healing is happening. Showers are fine once you are past the first 24 hours. For changing rooms, you can continue using school or gym facilities; just keep the area clean and dry.
Can I be involved in the decision, or is this just my parents' choice?
This is your body and your choice. If there is no urgent medical reason, we actively encourage teenagers to be involved in the decision at an age-appropriate level. You can discuss circumcision with your parents, ask your own questions at the consultation, and feel genuinely heard. Your involvement improves your comfort with the whole experience.
Will this affect sexual function or sensation?
No. Circumcision does not affect sexual function, sensitivity, or pleasure. It's a normal concern, and the answer is straightforward. The procedure addresses the foreskin only and does not impact any of these areas.
