The Pollock Technique™ is one of the most important ways in which Gentle Procedures is different. Dr Neil Pollock has focused on circumcision for decades, studying established techniques and using that experience to continually refine his approach. What to Expect During Your Appointment
Your appointment is structured into four clear stages, so you know what will happen and why. Most appointments take around 45 to 60 minutes, giving you and your baby the time you need without feeling rushed. We are deliberately unhurried, so you can settle your baby and feel completely comfortable throughout.

You will be shown to your private room where you can change, feed and settle your baby before anything begins. Appointments are deliberately unhurried, so you have time to get comfortable.

Meet Your Doctor
After examining your baby, your doctor will talk you through the Pollock Technique™, explain how your infant's comfort is managed, and answer your questions.

The Procedure Itself
Your baby's comfort is considered throughout. The procedure uses local anaesthetic, along with appropriate soothing and distraction measures. This includes a natural sugar solution to keep your baby comfortable throughout.

Feed, Cuddle & Recover
Now you can feed, change and cuddle your baby in your private room. You will get clear guidance on aftercare and follow-up before leaving.

We understand that keeping your baby settled and cared for throughout their appointment is incredibly important to you. Our approach combines appropriate pain relief with simple, reassuring measures to support your baby before, during and after their procedure.
During the Procedure
- Local Anaesthetic is used to numb the treatment area before the procedure.
- Where clinically appropriate, a natural sugar solution may be used alongside local anaesthetic and other soothing measures.
- Feeding, cuddling and age-appropriate soothing and distraction techniques can help keep your baby calm and settled throughout their appointment.
- There is no need to rush home after the procedure. You will have time in your private room to feed, cuddle and settle your baby before leaving the clinic.

What are the risks of infant circumcision?
Circumcision is a well-established procedure. Serious complications are rare when performed by experienced doctors using careful technique and proper anaesthesia. We use the Pollock Technique™, which has been refined over decades specifically to minimise tissue trauma and optimise outcomes. Our doctors will talk to you about any risks before the procedure begins to make sure you understand everything.
Is my son too old for circumcision at 3-17 months?
Not at all. This age range is completely routine for us. At this stage, your infant is past the newborn phase but still at an ideal age for the procedure. Older babies are a little stronger and more curious than newborns, so we adapt the approach to your baby's developmental stage, but the experience is just as calm and the care just as gentle.
Will my baby be in pain?
Local anaesthetic is used to numb the area, so your baby should not experience pain during the procedure. Afterwards, mild discomfort is common but manageable. We use soothing techniques and comforting measures to keep your baby settled. Your doctor will discuss pain management with you before and after the procedure.
How long will the procedure take?
The procedure itself is very quick - typically 20 to 30 minutes. Your appointment is much longer on purpose, allowing time for your baby to settle before and after, and for you to ask any questions without rushing.
How long will it take an older baby to heal?
Healing progresses during the first one to two weeks, with complete healing generally taking around four weeks. Healing varies between babies, and our clinical team will review your baby’s progress. We provide clear guidance on what to expect each day and when you should contact us if anything concerns you.
Can I bathe my baby after the procedure?
You can sponge-wash your baby during the first 72 hours. Do not submerge him in a bath during this time. After 72 hours, bathing can restart once our clinical team confirms it is safe.
What happens if I'm worried about something during healing?
Our structured follow-up includes proactive check-in calls, so we are actively monitoring your baby's progress. You also have access to out-of-hours support if an urgent concern arises outside normal clinic hours. Our team is here to answer questions. Don't worry about calling if you're unsure about anything.
