Private Vasectomy in Birmingham: No-Scalpel, No-Needle Care
Gentle Procedures is a CQC-regulated vasectomy clinic serving Birmingham and the wider West Midlands. We provide no-scalpel vasectomy using the Pollock Technique™, an advanced approach that removes both the scalpel and the anaesthetic needle from the procedure entirely.
Most men who come to us say the same thing: they were expecting it to be worse. That is one of the most common things we hear, and it is why we think it is worth being clear about what the procedure actually involves before you book.
The result is a 10-minute appointment with minimal discomfort, no stitches, and a recovery most men manage far more easily than they anticipated. Every patient is treated with care and respect throughout, and we do not rush the appointment. If you have questions before you book, we are happy to answer them.

Vasectomy in Birmingham: Precise, Comfortable
A vasectomy is a safe, permanent form of male contraception. Once done, it provides reliable, long-term protection that does not interfere with intimacy, hormones, or everyday life. At our Birmingham vasectomy clinic, we offer a modern approach that puts patient comfort at the centre of the procedure, without cutting corners on clinical quality.
Our approach is different. Using the Pollock Technique™, we make a single tiny opening in the skin rather than a surgical incision, and deliver the local anaesthetic via a fine pressure spray rather than a needle. Most patients are back at a desk-based job within one to two days.
- Fast access to appointments without the long waiting times
- Minimal discomfort for most patients under long-acting local anaesthetic
- Advanced no-scalpel technique: a single small opening rather than a surgical cut
- Two-clinician approach: a second trained professional is present throughout every procedure
- Why the Pollock Technique™ is the Preferred Choice
The Pollock Technique™: A Better Vasectomy Experience
The Pollock Technique™ is a standardised vasectomy approach that removes both the scalpel and the anaesthetic needle from the procedure, replacing the traditional incision with a tiny opening and delivering local anaesthetic through a fine jet-spray rather than a needle.
Nothing sharp is used at any point during the appointment, and the whole procedure typically takes around 10 minutes. Compared with a traditional vasectomy, the Pollock Technique™ has been associated with significantly fewer complications in published clinical studies. Less disturbance to surrounding tissue means less bruising, a lower risk of infection, and a noticeably faster recovery. The technique is performed exclusively by doctors trained specifically in this method, which delivers consistent results for men across Birmingham and the West Midlands.
If you are considering a vasectomy, it is worth understanding why the approach matters and why we believe this one is the right choice for most men.

Vasectomy in Birmingham: Answers to the Questions Patients Ask Most

What is a vasectomy, and how does it work?
A vasectomy is a permanent method of male contraception. The procedure works by sealing or blocking the vas deferens, the two tubes that carry sperm from the testicles into the semen. Once sealed, sperm can no longer be released during ejaculation, making fertilisation impossible.
At our Birmingham clinic, we use the Pollock Technique™ to complete this in around 10 minutes through a single tiny opening, with no scalpel and no needle involved. Sexual function, testosterone production, and libido are completely unaffected.
How long does the vasectomy procedure take at your Birmingham clinic?
Using the no-scalpel approach at our Birmingham clinic, the procedure itself takes around 10 minutes. Your appointment will be slightly longer to allow time for preparation and for any final questions, but most patients are ready to leave within the hour.
You will need someone to drive you home or arrange a short taxi journey, as we recommend not driving on the day of the procedure.
When is a semen test needed after a vasectomy?
A follow-up semen test is essential after a vasectomy to confirm that the procedure has been successful and that no sperm remain in the ejaculate. We include this test in your fee, and it is typically carried out at around 12 weeks after the procedure.
It is important to continue using contraception until you have received a clear result. Further guidance is available in our vasectomy patient guides.
Can a vasectomy be reversed if circumstances change?
Vasectomy should always be considered a permanent decision. Reversal surgery (called a vasovasostomy, an operation to reconnect the tubes) is technically possible, but it is a significantly more complex procedure. It is not routinely available on the NHS, carries no guarantee of success, and success rates decrease the longer it has been since the original vasectomy.
If you are still weighing up the decision, that is completely normal, there is no pressure to proceed, and our consultation is the right place to work through any remaining questions at your own pace.
We recommend that anyone with any uncertainty discuss this fully during their consultation before proceeding.
We recommend that anyone with any uncertainty discuss this fully during their consultation before proceeding.
How soon can men return to normal activities after a vasectomy?
Most men return to desk-based or light office work within one to two days of their procedure at our Birmingham clinic. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, cycling, and swimming for around seven days.
Sexual activity can typically resume after seven days, though you must continue using contraception until your follow-up semen test at around 12 weeks has confirmed a clear result. Full guidance is included in your written aftercare instructions.
What is a no-needle vasectomy?
A no-needle vasectomy uses a fine jet-spray device to deliver the local anaesthetic through the skin without any syringe or needle. The spray creates a small pressure sensation that numbs the area quickly and effectively, so the procedure can begin without anything sharp being used.
This is a core part of the Pollock Technique™ offered at our Birmingham clinic. In our experience, it is the element patients are most relieved about when they learn that the procedure involves no needles at any stage.
Does a vasectomy hurt?
Most patients at our Birmingham clinic describe the procedure as far more comfortable than they anticipated. The local anaesthetic is delivered without a needle, so there is no sharp injection to deal with. Once the anaesthetic has taken effect, the procedure itself should cause no pain.
You may feel some mild pressure or a brief dull ache during the appointment. Sharp pain is uncommon. Some mild soreness and bruising in the days following the procedure is normal and usually settles within a week.
How much does a vasectomy cost in Birmingham?
At our Birmingham vasectomy clinic, a standard vasectomy is priced at £749 all-inclusive, and the Pollock Technique™ vasectomy is priced at £1,450. Both fees cover your consultation, the procedure, full aftercare, and your follow-up semen test. There are no hidden charges.
A standalone consultation is available for £195 if you would like to discuss your options before committing to a procedure.
Can I get a vasectomy on the NHS in Birmingham?
NHS vasectomies are available in Birmingham, though waiting times can be considerable, often extending to several months depending on demand at the time. Eligibility criteria also apply.
Private care at our Birmingham clinic means you can book without a wait and access the no-scalpel, no-needle Pollock Technique™. If the speed of access or the specific technique matters to you, it is worth comparing both routes before deciding.
How long after a vasectomy can I drive a car?
We recommend not driving on the day of your procedure. Most men are comfortable driving from the day after their vasectomy at our Birmingham clinic, provided they are not experiencing significant discomfort and are not taking any medication that affects their ability to drive safely.
If you live close to our clinic, arranging a lift or a short taxi for the day of the appointment is the most sensible option.
Will a vasectomy impact my testosterone levels?
No. A vasectomy does not affect testosterone production, sex drive, or sexual performance in any way. The procedure only interrupts the pathway sperm travels through. The testicles continue to produce testosterone, which enters the bloodstream as normal.
Erections, ejaculation, and orgasm are all unchanged. The only difference is that the ejaculate no longer contains sperm.
How long after a vasectomy can you have intercourse?
Most men can resume sexual activity around seven days after their vasectomy at our Birmingham clinic, once any soreness has fully settled. It is essential to continue using contraception until your follow-up semen test at around 12 weeks has confirmed a clear result.
Until that test comes back clear, the procedure cannot be considered complete. Full aftercare guidance covering intimacy, exercise, and recovery milestones is included with every procedure.
