No-Scalpel Vasectomy in Birmingham
At Gentle Procedures, our doctors carry out the no-scalpel vasectomy through a single small opening in the skin. No scalpel cut and no skin stitches are needed. It is permanent contraception for adult men. Doctors perform the procedure under local anaesthetic in about 10 minutes at our Birmingham clinic.
Most men return to light work within 1 to 2 days. You can book a consultation to talk through whether a vasectomy suits you and ask any questions you have. If you decide to go ahead, your vasectomy can be performed at the same appointment.

What a No-Scalpel Vasectomy Involves
A no-scalpel vasectomy is permanent contraception for men. Your doctor seals the two tubes that carry sperm from the testicles. This means sperm can no longer reach your semen. Instead of cutting the skin with a scalpel, the doctor makes one small opening and gently widens it to reach the tubes.
Because the opening is so small, no skin stitches are needed. The skin closes naturally, and when a semen analysis shows no sperm, a vasectomy is over 99% effective. It is meant to be permanent, so we make sure you are certain before we begin.
On the day, your doctor numbs the area with a local anaesthetic given by a fine needle. They then make the opening, seal the tubes and finish. The procedure takes about 10 minutes, and you go home the same day.

Our Approach and What to Expect
Gentle Procedures carries out the no-scalpel vasectomy at our Birmingham clinic for adult men. Your doctor numbs the area with a local anaesthetic, then uses an instrument to make one small opening in the skin. Through that opening, the doctor gently reaches the two tubes that carry sperm and seals them. You stay awake throughout. Most men are ready to leave shortly afterwards, and you're given clear aftercare instructions to follow at home.
The local anaesthetic for a no-scalpel vasectomy is given by a fine needle. If the needle worries you, we also offer the Pollock Technique™: a no-scalpel, no-needle vasectomy. A pressure spray numbs the skin instead of an injection, and the rest of the procedure follows the same steps. Your doctor can explain the difference at your consultation, so you can choose the option that suits you.
What to Expect During Your Appointment
Your appointment is structured into four clear stages, so you know what will happen and why. Most appointments take around 45 to 60 minutes, giving you and your baby the time you need without feeling rushed. We are deliberately unhurried, so you can settle your baby and feel completely comfortable throughout.
01
Arrive and talk it through
Your appointment is structured into four clear stages. Most appointments take around 45 to 60 minutes, allowing time to discuss your decision, ask questions, have your procedure and receive aftercare guidance.
02
Anaesthetic
The doctor cleans the skin, numbs the area with a local anaesthetic, and gives you time for it to take effect before the procedure begins.
03
The procedure
The doctor makes one small opening and seals the tubes. It usually takes about 10 minutes and needs no stitches.
04
Rest and aftercare
You will rest briefly after your procedure. Before you leave, our clinical team will explain your aftercare, what to expect during recovery and how to contact us with any concerns.
Your Comfort and What to Expect Afterwards
Two questions come up in almost every consultation: will it hurt, and what could go wrong? We answer both plainly before you decide.
Anaesthetic and comfort
Your doctor numbs the area with a local anaesthetic. You stay awake but should not feel sharp pain. You may feel a brief pinch as the needle goes in, then pressure or gentle tugging during the procedure. Tell your doctor at any point if something is uncomfortable. They will pause and add more anaesthetic if needed.
Follow-up semen testing and support
Most men have bruising, swelling and tenderness for the first week, which eases with rest and an ice pack. A small number may develop an infection or bleeding, and a few have a tender lump or a longer ache. Around 16 weeks after your procedure, you will have a semen analysis to check whether your vasectomy has been successful. Continue using contraception until our clinical team confirms the all-clear. If you have any concerns, please call us to discuss them further.

I honestly cannot recommend this clinic enough. My child recently had his circumcision here, and from the moment we walked through the doors, I felt completely reassured that I had made the right decision. Before choosing this clinic, I visited several others, but none of them gave me the same feeling of comfort and confidence. The team here were incredibly professional, welcoming and accommodating. They took the time to answer every question I had, no matter how small, and explained everything to me in such detail. As a parent, this meant so much to me because I never felt rushed or made to feel like I was asking too many questions. What really stood out was how confident and knowledgeable the staff were. You could tell they genuinely knew what they were doing, but at the same time, they were kind, patient and understanding. They made the whole experience feel much less daunting than I had imagined. The clinic itself was also completely different from anywhere else I had visited. It was calm, clean and welcoming, which created such a reassuring environment for both my child and me. Everything they did felt centred around the patient, and I could genuinely see that my child's comfort and wellbeing were their priority. I am especially grateful for the support they offered beyond the procedure itself. They made it clear that they were there to support us afterwards too, not simply until we left the clinic or until a follow-up appointment. Knowing that I could reach out if I had any concerns gave me so much peace of mind. As a parent, you naturally want the very best for your child, and choosing someone to carry out a procedure like this can feel like a huge decision. I am so glad I chose Gentle Procedures. I genuinely felt listened to, respected and cared for throughout the whole experience. I would recommend this clinic to every parent and honestly to every person I meet who is considering circumcision. I have never felt this level of confidence and reassurance with any other healthcare provider. A huge thank you to everyone at Gentle Procedures. You are truly amazing, and I am so grateful for the care you gave my child and the reassurance you gave me as a parent. ❤️Posted on Google![]()

We have had an excellent, professional and calming experience at TGP clinic today. Being nervous parents we felt ever so calm during the process. The discussion during and post procedure was extremely clear. We were provided with postcare items and were talked through it all. It was that good we ended up chatting away in the reception forgetting our appointment was completed.Thank you ever so much for a safe procedure. Will 100% recommend.Posted on Google![]()

No-Scalpel Vasectomy: Honest Answers for Men
What is a no-scalpel vasectomy?
A no-scalpel vasectomy is permanent contraception for men. The doctor makes one small opening in the skin, then seals the two tubes that carry sperm. No scalpel or stitches are needed, and the skin closes naturally.
How is a no-scalpel vasectomy different from a traditional vasectomy?
A traditional vasectomy uses a scalpel to make one or two cuts in the skin, which usually need stitches. A no-scalpel vasectomy uses a single small opening instead. The tubes are sealed in the same way, stitches aren't needed, and the result is the same.
Do you offer any other type of vasectomy?
Yes. We also offer no-needle, no-scalpel vasectomy using the Pollock Technique™, with local anaesthetic delivered by a pressure spray instead of a needle injection. A no-needle, no-scalpel, no-cautery option is planned for early 2027. Your doctor will explain the available options and discuss which is suitable for you.
Does a no-scalpel vasectomy hurt?
The area is numbed with a local anaesthetic, so you should not feel sharp pain. You may feel a brief pinch as the needle goes in, then some pressure or tugging. Some soreness afterwards is normal and eases over the first week.
How soon can I return to normal activities?
Most men return to light or desk-based work within 1 to 2 days. Your doctor will advise when you can resume strenuous activity, swimming and sex. Follow your aftercare instructions and continue using contraception until we confirm that your vasectomy has been successful.
Does a vasectomy affect my sex life?
No. A vasectomy does not affect erections, sex drive or how orgasm feels. You still ejaculate, and your semen looks much the same, because sperm make up only a small part of it.
Why is a semen analysis needed after a vasectomy?
You have a semen analysis about 16 weeks after your procedure to confirm there is no sperm. Use other contraception until you have the all-clear.
Can a vasectomy be reversed if circumstances change?
Reversal is sometimes possible, but it is not guaranteed and becomes less likely over time. Treat a vasectomy as permanent. If you may want children later, talk to your doctor about storing sperm first.
