Three Ways to Have a Vasectomy
No-scalpel vasectomy
A single small opening in the skin replaces the scalpel cut. The doctor numbs the area with a local anaesthetic given by a fine needle before sealing the tubes that carry sperm.
- No scalpel and no stitches
- Anaesthetic given by fine needle
- Procedure takes about 10 minutes
No-needle, no-scalpel vasectomy (Pollock Technique™)
The same small opening, with no needle. A fine pressure spray delivers the anaesthetic through the skin, and only doctors trained in the technique may perform it.
- No scalpel and no needle
- Anaesthetic delivered by pressure spray
- Cautery used to help seal the tubes
No-needle, no-scalpel vasectomy, no-cautery vasectomy (Pollock Technique™)
The same small opening, with no needle. A fine pressure spray delivers the anaesthetic through the skin, and the tubes that carry sperm are blocked without cautery with a trademarked technique exclusive to Gentle Procedures.
- No scalpel, no needle and no cautery
- Anaesthetic delivered by pressure spray
- Procedure takes about 15 minutes
Why Men Choose a Vasectomy
Reliable contraception
A vasectomy is over 99% effective once a semen test shows no sperm. It is one of the most dependable forms of contraception available.
Nothing to remember
Once you have the all-clear, there are no pills, patches or condoms to plan around. Erections, sex drive and orgasm are not affected.
Shared responsibility
Many couples choose it so responsibility doesn't always fall on one partner. No general anaesthetic is needed. It's all done using local anaesthetic.
A decision made once
For men certain their family is complete, a vasectomy is a one-off decision. It is meant to be permanent, so we talk it through with you first.
Why Choose Gentle Procedures For Your Vasectomy?
Vasectomy is one of the men's health procedures we specialise in. Our appointments are for adult men, and the conversation is direct. You can ask questions about your sex life, recovery or what the procedure involves, and our doctors will answer in plain English without rushing you.
We currently offer no-scalpel vasectomy and no-needle, no-scalpel vasectomy using the Pollock Technique™. A third option - no-needle, no-scalpel vasectomy without cautery, also using the Pollock Technique™ - is planned to launch in early 2027. Our doctors explain the options and guide you on suitability, so you can make an informed choice without pressure
A vasectomy is meant to be permanent, so we also talk through whether it is right for you before we go ahead. It's a perfectly acceptable outcome if you prefer to wait or not proceed at all.
The Pollock Technique™: Expertise, Development & Precision
The Pollock Technique™ is a structured way of carrying out a no-needle, no-scalpel vasectomy, developed through clinical experience, research and continual refinement. Gentle Procedures is the UK home of the technique, and our doctors undertake dedicated training in it. Every appointment follows a clear process, so you will know what to expect in advance.

Getting ready
If your doctor confirms that a vasectomy is suitable for you, your consultation and procedure can take place during the same appointment. We’ll send clear preparation instructions beforehand. These include avoiding alcohol for 48 hours before and after your procedure, guidance on shaving, and advice on aspirin, ibuprofen and other anti-inflammatory medicines, which can increase bleeding risk. You’ll also be asked to wear supportive underwear, bring a small ice pack, and arrive 15 minutes before your appointment.
During the procedure
Your doctor will start by talking through whether a vasectomy is suitable for you and answering your questions. Once you're ready, the procedure can begin right away. The doctor numbs the area with a fine needle or pressure spray, depending on which technique you choose, and then makes one small opening and seals the tubes that carry sperm. It takes about 10-15 minutes and needs no stitches.
After your procedure
Go home to rest, and use an ice pack and supportive underwear to limit swelling. Most men can return to light work within 1 to 2 days. Avoid strenuous activity, baths, and swimming pools for 7 days. You will need a follow-up semen test and should use other contraception until it shows no sperm. If you have heavy bleeding, a fever, spreading redness, worsening pain or difficulty passing urine, call us immediately.
Vasectomy Doctors Experienced in Men's Health
Every vasectomy at Gentle Procedures is carried out by a GMC-registered doctor who works in men's health and surgical procedures. Our doctors are trained in both the no-scalpel vasectomy and the Pollock Technique™, and they perform repeat vasectomies for men who had the first one elsewhere.
At your consultation, they will explain how each technique works. They will also answer the questions men sometimes find awkward to ask, such as whether a vasectomy affects your sex life.
You'll see the same clinical team from your consultation through to your follow-up. Your doctor talks you through each step before it happens, and reviews your semen test result with you. If something worries you during recovery, you can call the clinic and speak to someone who knows your care.
Clear, All-Inclusive Vasectomy Pricing
Each price covers your consultation, the procedure, aftercare and your follow-up semen test. There are no separate booking fees. Choose the technique that suits you, and your doctor will confirm the details at your consultation.
A note on your booking: If the most suitable procedure differs from the option you booked, we will explain the reason and any change in price before proceeding. You will only be charged for the procedure you agree to and receive.

I honestly cannot recommend this clinic enough. My child recently had his circumcision here, and from the moment we walked through the doors, I felt completely reassured that I had made the right decision. Before choosing this clinic, I visited several others, but none of them gave me the same feeling of comfort and confidence. The team here were incredibly professional, welcoming and accommodating. They took the time to answer every question I had, no matter how small, and explained everything to me in such detail. As a parent, this meant so much to me because I never felt rushed or made to feel like I was asking too many questions. What really stood out was how confident and knowledgeable the staff were. You could tell they genuinely knew what they were doing, but at the same time, they were kind, patient and understanding. They made the whole experience feel much less daunting than I had imagined. The clinic itself was also completely different from anywhere else I had visited. It was calm, clean and welcoming, which created such a reassuring environment for both my child and me. Everything they did felt centred around the patient, and I could genuinely see that my child's comfort and wellbeing were their priority. I am especially grateful for the support they offered beyond the procedure itself. They made it clear that they were there to support us afterwards too, not simply until we left the clinic or until a follow-up appointment. Knowing that I could reach out if I had any concerns gave me so much peace of mind. As a parent, you naturally want the very best for your child, and choosing someone to carry out a procedure like this can feel like a huge decision. I am so glad I chose Gentle Procedures. I genuinely felt listened to, respected and cared for throughout the whole experience. I would recommend this clinic to every parent and honestly to every person I meet who is considering circumcision. I have never felt this level of confidence and reassurance with any other healthcare provider. A huge thank you to everyone at Gentle Procedures. You are truly amazing, and I am so grateful for the care you gave my child and the reassurance you gave me as a parent. ❤️Posted on Google![]()

We have had an excellent, professional and calming experience at TGP clinic today. Being nervous parents we felt ever so calm during the process. The discussion during and post procedure was extremely clear. We were provided with postcare items and were talked through it all. It was that good we ended up chatting away in the reception forgetting our appointment was completed.Thank you ever so much for a safe procedure. Will 100% recommend.Posted on Google![]()

I had an excellent experience with Gentle Procedures Solihull for my young son’s circumcision. Dr Yemi Idowu, Dr Tayo Idowu and Karen were highly professional, knowledgeable and reassuring throughout. Emma Fitzsimmons and Bryce were also incredibly kind, helpful and supportive. The procedure and aftercare were handled with great care, and I felt that my son’s safety and wellbeing were always the priority. I am very grateful to the entire team and would highly recommend Gentle Procedures Solihull to other parents. Dr EnangPosted on Google![]()

Vasectomy: Honest Answers
What is a vasectomy and how does it work?
A vasectomy is permanent contraception for men. The doctor seals the two tubes that carry sperm from the testicles, so sperm can no longer reach your semen. It is done through one small opening in the skin.
Which vasectomy technique is right for me?
All three options are no-scalpel. Our standard no-scalpel vasectomy is the lowest-priced option and uses a fine needle to deliver local anaesthetic. The Pollock Technique™ options use needle-free anaesthetic, with a no-cautery option planned for early 2027. Your doctor will explain the available options at your consultation and help you choose based on your preferences and clinical suitability.
How long does the vasectomy procedure take?
The procedure itself takes about 10 minutes. Allow extra time for your consultation, preparation and a short rest before you go home.
How soon can I return to normal activities?
Most men return to light or desk-based work within 1 to 2 days. Avoid strenuous activity and swimming for 7 days, and wait until you feel comfortable before having sex.
Does a vasectomy affect my sex life?
No. A vasectomy does not affect erections, your sex drive or how orgasm feels. You still ejaculate. Your semen will look much the same because sperm make up only a small part of it.
When is a semen test needed after a vasectomy?
You need a semen test after your vasectomy to confirm there is no sperm. Your doctor will tell you when to take it. Use other contraception until you’re given the all-clear.
Can a vasectomy be reversed if circumstances change?
Reversal is sometimes possible, but it is not guaranteed and becomes less likely over time. Treat a vasectomy as permanent. If you think you may want children later, talk to your doctor about storing sperm first.
