- BIRMINGHAM'S DEDICATED CIRCUMCISION CLINIC FOR EVERY AGE
Circumcision in Birmingham for Babies, Children and Adult Men
- CARE FOR PATIENTS AT EVERY STAGE OF LIFE
Who Circumcision Is For
Patients arrive at our clinic at very different points in life, and each age group is looked after differently. The Pollock Technique™ makes that possible because the same local anaesthetic approach can be adapted safely from a few days old through to adult men. Some families come for religious or cultural reasons. Others come because their GP has flagged a medical issue, or because the patient has chosen circumcision for themselves. Our team is used to working with families from Birmingham’s Muslim, Jewish and Sikh communities, and the clinic has a private waiting area.
Babies and Infants
A short procedure for newborns and infants, carried out in around 60 seconds with skin glue instead of stitches. Suitable from a few days old up to 17 months. Read more about our approach to newborn and infant circumcision.
Older Children and Teenagers
Circumcision for boys aged 17 months to 15 years. We see older boys in a private consulting room with one parent, walk through what will happen step by step, and send the preparation notes home in advance, so nothing is a surprise on the day.
Adult Men of All Ages
Adult circumcision under local anaesthetic, with most men back at a desk job within 1 to 2 days. There is no upper age limit, subject to a short suitability check at consultation.
- HOW THE POLLOCK TECHNIQUE™ COMPARES
The Pollock Technique™ Advantage: How It Compares
Traditional surgical circumcision
Most adult men who choose circumcision in the UK are offered a traditional hospital-based procedure. That route typically involves:
- A longer day-case appointment in a hospital or surgical centre
- Stitches that need to dissolve or be removed at a follow-up
- The use of general anaesthetic or sedation, with the additional clinical risks that come with it
- More post-procedure swelling and a longer wound-care window
- A longer wait before returning to work, driving or exercise
The Pollock Technique™ at our clinic
The Pollock Technique™ has been refined over 30 years and used in more than 500,000 procedures worldwide.
- Local anaesthetic only: avoids the clinical risks of sedation and general anaesthesia
- Skin glue closure instead of stitches, for comfort and faster healing
- A short procedure time of around 60 seconds for newborns and under 10 minutes for older children and adult men
- A faster return to everyday life, with most adult patients back to desk-based work within 1 to 2 days

Circumcision in Birmingham: Quick Answers to Your Questions
At what age is circumcision best?
There isn’t a single “best” age. It depends on your reasons and the patient’s medical history. Newborn and infant circumcision is the quickest to perform and heals fastest, which is why many families choose it within the first few months. Older children, teenagers and adult men can be circumcised just as safely; the procedure simply takes a little longer, and the recovery is a bit extended. We see every age group.
Is it too late to circumcise a 2-year-old?
Not at all. A 2-year-old can be circumcised comfortably using the Pollock Technique™ under local anaesthetic. In our experience, the practical difference between 18 months and 3 years is small. What matters more is the child’s general health and feeding-and-sleep pattern that week. Most toddlers settle within a day or two with simple aftercare.
Will the circumcision be painful?
Local anaesthetic numbs the area before we start, so the procedure itself is not felt as pain. Babies typically show a brief reaction during the injection and then settle quickly. Older children and adults describe the sensation as pressure or tugging rather than sharp pain. Some mild soreness in the days afterwards is normal and is easily managed with age-appropriate pain relief.
How painful is circumcision on a scale of 1 to 10?
Most adult patients rate the procedure itself at around 1 to 2 out of 10 thanks to the local anaesthetic. Post-procedure soreness usually peaks at 2 to 3 out of 10 in the first 48 hours and then settles. Newborns generally show only a brief reaction during the procedure and feed and sleep normally afterwards.
How do you ensure safety and hygiene during circumcision?
Every procedure is carried out in a sterile field with single-use, medical-grade instruments. Our clinicians are trained exclusively in the Pollock Technique™, follow UK infection-control protocols and use skin glue closure to keep the wound sealed and protected as it heals.
What ages do you offer circumcision for?
We see newborns from a few days old, infants, toddlers, older children, teenagers and adult men of any age. There is no upper age limit, provided the patient is medically suitable, which we confirm at consultation.
What does recovery look like after circumcision?
For newborns, healing is usually complete within 7 to 10 days with simple nappy-time care. Older children typically recover in 2 to 3 weeks. Most adult men return to desk-based work within 1 to 2 days and resume sport, swimming and sexual activity after 3 to 4 weeks. Every patient leaves with written aftercare instructions and a direct contact number for the clinician.
How does the Pollock Technique™ make circumcision different?
The Pollock Technique™ uses local anaesthetic only, skin glue instead of stitches, and is designed to reduce bleeding and tissue trauma. The result is a shorter procedure and a quicker recovery for most patients. It has been refined over 30 years and used in more than 500,000 procedures worldwide.
How much does circumcision cost in Birmingham clinics?
Private circumcision in Birmingham generally ranges from around £275 for very young babies up to £1,800 for adult men, depending on age. Our pricing is fixed and all-inclusive, covering the consultation, the procedure, aftercare and follow-up. The full price list is shown above.
Where can I book a newborn circumcision appointment in Birmingham?
You can book through our online enquiry form or by calling the clinic. We aim to offer appointments quickly, often within a week, and where suitable, we carry out the consultation and procedure on the same day.
can take place in the first weeks of life when healing is fastest.
Does the NHS cover circumcision in Birmingham?
The NHS funds circumcision when there is a specific medical reason, such as recurrent infections or a tight foreskin that hasn’t responded to other treatment. Cultural, religious and personal-choice circumcisions are not routinely funded by the NHS, which is why most families and adult men in the UK choose a private clinic.
