Do I need a frenulectomy, a frenuloplasty or frenulum repair?
That's exactly what your consultation answers. A frenuloplasty lengthens a tight frenulum while preserving the foreskin; a frenulectomy removes the frenulum when lengthening alone won't be enough; and a frenulum repair fixes a frenulum that has torn. Our specialist examines the area and recommends whichever of the three genuinely suits you, with no pressure to proceed.
What's the difference between frenuloplasty and frenulectomy?
A frenuloplasty releases and lengthens the frenulum, keeping it in place. A frenulectomy removes the frenulum altogether. Both are quick procedures under local anaesthetic; we'll explain which is better for your anatomy at your consultation.
Is phimosis treatment always a circumcision?
No. Phimosis treatment is tailored to you. In some cases a foreskin-preserving procedure resolves the phimosis, while in others a circumcision is the more reliable phimosis treatment, particularly where there's scarring. We'll talk you through every phimosis treatment option before anything is decided.

In most cases, no. Frenulectomy, frenuloplasty, skin bridge removal, lesion removal and frenulum repair are typically carried out under local anaesthetic, so the area is fully numbed while you stay awake and comfortable. You go home the same day.
Will my frenuloplasty or frenulectomy procedure hurt?
You may feel the small sting of the local anaesthetic, but the frenuloplasty or frenulectomy itself should be pain-free. Mild tenderness, swelling or stinging when passing urine is normal for the first few days and usually settles quickly with simple pain relief.
How soon can I return to normal life after my procedure?
Most men are back to everyday activities within a day or two of a frenulectomy, frenuloplasty, skin bridge removal or lesion removal. We'll ask you to avoid sex and masturbation until the area has healed securely, and we tailor that advice to how you're recovering.
Will frenuloplasty or frenulectomy leave a scar?
